Character Information
Name: Xion
Source Canon: Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (just after her death)
Age: 15 physically. Actually just less than a year.
Role In Canon: Xion is one of the main characters in Days, and a large part of the plot concerns her connection with Roxas and her struggle for her existence. She's also, well...the final boss.
History: Here.
Personality: Xion starts out as rather shy and withdrawn, always keeping the hood of her cloak up to hide her face. She doesn't speak much, though through her interactions with Roxas she begins to open up. It's not entirely clear, but it seems that this transition is because, as a replica, she was an actual blank slate before she met him and began to develop a personality. As it is, she learns quickly, becoming fast friends with Roxas, and later, Axel. She begins to assert herself, being the one to ask Roxas first if they can be friends, and taking up the responsibilities of solo missions.
Being a Replica and not a Nobody, Xion does possess a heart, albeit an artificial one, and her emotions are strong. She smiles and laughs with her friends, and while she seems nervous around new people, she warms up to them quickly, as long as they're friendly. Her voice, while identical to Kairi's, is usually quiet and soft, almost timid, even if she feels comfortable around someone. The only time she raises it is in anger or distress, usually when she feels threatened.
She has a sense of adventure, but not without responsibility, in contrast to the boy she was created from and his almost reckless curiosity. Xion is often the voice of reason, working through problems and suggesting solutions despite her limited knowledge of the world. This doesn't mean she can't be impulsive, however, especially when she's emotionally compromised for one reason or another. She also doesn't seem to have a concept of privilege: she's a hard worker and views her inability to perform a task as her own fault, even if it's the cause of outside influences. In that sense she never sees her physical size as a problem.
By the point she's taken from, Xion is resigned to her fate, if it means protecting the people she cares for. They mean more to her than anything else in her short life, which means if you earn the title "friend" from her, she'll be relentlessly loyal. She is brave in that sense, but it should be remembered that courage doesn't mean the absence of fear. She gets scared, she can't always make decisions easily. Another important piece of this girl is that, for whatever reason, (most likely growing up being told she can't feel) she has a difficult time expressing when she's upset. Instead of being vocal about it, she'll hold it in, probably not wanting to worry other people. Unfortunately, this has the side effect of the equivalent of shaking a bottle of soda and then opening it. If whatever is bothering her starts to overwhelm her, she can end up lashing out at someone who's worried for her without meaning to. Instead of seeking comfort from others, she runs off to be alone.
Xion's sense of self is strong, which makes it even more devastating when she learns the memories she thought were hers belong to someone else. She begins to question herself, becoming uncertain and downcast. Looking at her life, this emotional mess is perfectly understandable. A little girl in a teenage body with less than a year of experience in the world, nowhere near enough time to figure out who she is and how she feels about herself. And then this girl learns that her very existence is a danger to the most important person in the world to her, her best friend.
Tragic as it is, it's in crisis that Xion's true self shines, not unlike the people she takes after: Sora and Kairi. She finds the resolve to give herself up so that Roxas can be safe, even if he doesn't understand or accept her decision. She follows through even after learning that everyone will forget her once she disappears, taking comfort in the fact that her own memories of her friends will remain, no matter what. This strength is what ultimately defines her: the will to do what is right in a world that doesn't want her anymore. She will always choose someone she cares about over herself in the end, no matter how much she wavers in getting there.
Abilities: As the replica of a Keyblade wielder, Xion possesses her own Keyblade as well as the ability to handle both Roxas's weapon, and, theoretically, Sora's.
The Keyblade is what is known as a weapon of the heart, shaped mostly like, well, a giant key. Its default form has a gold hand guard and silver shaft and keychain. By changing the keychain, the blade's shape and power can be altered as well. However, all Keyblades possess the same basic powers: first, the ability to open any lock or door. Second, it gives its wielder command over magic of various kinds. (elemental attack spells, such as conjuring fire or lightning, as well as healing and defensive spells.) Third, it can unlock the heart, or remove it from a person's body. The "heart" here being not exactly a physical organ, but rather the representation of a person's will and sense of self.
When not being used, the Keyblade disappears in a flash of light. It's assumed that the wielder must willingly dismiss it, just as they have to willingly call it to their hand in the first place.
Combat abilities aside, without her weapon Xion is more or less like any other teenage girl, albeit on the scrawny side. (comparing her to the other Organization members, she's tiny, shorter and skinner than even Roxas.) The exceptions to this will probably not be applicable in-game anyway, but I'll list them here regardless.
As a replica of Roxas, Xion has the ability to absorb Sora's memories. The more she has, the stronger she gets. Those memories are what gave her a face of her own to begin with--she strongly resembles Kairi, the girl within those memories. Because of her connection to Sora, people who are also connected to him (and by extension, Ventus) perceive her differently. To Xigbar, she looks like Ventus, and with all of Sora's lost memories, she looks identical to him. Those with no connection see her as having no real face at all. Yes, creepy. However, in this setting I would assume her form would stay stable as her original self, a girl with black hair.
When she gains all of Sora's memories, Xion also seems to gain his powers, as well as the ability to transform into a strange humanoid creature covered in armor. However, after her defeat at Roxas's hands, she returns to her normal self before she dies.
She also has the same ability as a Nobody to create corridors of darkness in order to travel from place to place.
Sample:
[the mirror shows what looks like a bush rustling, then suddenly a figure tumbles out from behind it, landing hard on her backside. As she scrambles up again, wincing, she stands still long enough for a better visual: the usual white shift new arrivals wake up in is covered by a long black coat, the hood drawn up to obscure her face. She's also barefoot.]
[another rustle, and a pair of long ears poke into view. Beady eyes regard the girl serenely as the rabbit chews away at something dark, with a flash of silver on the edge--]
My boot--h-hey! Give that back!
[she makes a grab for the creature, but it backs up, dragging its new meal out of her reach. The girl cries out in frustration, lunging forward, and manages to grab the toe of the boot, pulling on it. After a brief and somewhat comical tug of war, the rabbit relinquishes its hold and hops off out of view, apparently satisfied.]
[The hooded girl, meanwhile, sits down, her shoulders in a dejected slump. She holds the boot up: black, with a bit of a heel and a pointed toe--and sighs.]
It's all chewed up...
[she hunches over, her voice dropping in volume, apparently speaking to herself.]
I guess that's the least of my worries...I hope he's...all right.
[she rests her ruined footwear on her lap, turning her hands over, looking at her palms.]
And how can I still be here...does that mean he's--no. [she shakes her head, her quiet voice sharpening, curling both hands into fists. She clutches them both to her chest, tightly.] It can't be. He'll be fine--he has to be.
[she doesn't seem to be convincing herself, however, and leans forward, hugging her knees, pressing her face to them. When she speaks again, her voice is muffled.]
I thought it would be over by now...Roxas.....Axel. Please be okay.
